C.R. Beaver Inc. was the general contractor for the site enhancements at the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum Campus in Sedalia, NC. The 3 acre project consisted of the construction of a 50 space parking lot, two event plaza spaces, landscape planting, and restoration of historic stone columns at the Museums entrance way. The dollar value of this Department of Cultural Resources State Construction contract was approximately $500,000.
The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum campus consists of historic structures that were constructed in the early 1900′s as part of the Palmer Institute, a private preparatory school for African American boys and girls. Construction within this historic context required a high degree of detail and sensitivity to existing landscape and structures. C.R. Beaver Inc. demonstrated a superior level of professionalism, flexibility, and technical expertise in the construction of custom details and site features.
During construction, the museum campus continued to function as an event space and an educational destination for local school groups. C.R. Beaver worked closely with museum curators and NC Historic Sites representatives to ensure that construction activities did not disrupt day-to-day activities or scheduled events. Throughout the construction of the project, C.R. Beaver’s performance was exemplary I would strongly recommend their services to anyone.

I had the opportunity to work as a project developer with C.R. Beaver, Inc., a general contractor, on a City owned project on North Liberty Street. The project began on time and finished on time as per the contract. There were a minimum of change orders on the project which were all verified by the Department’s Construction Supervisor and including those the project came in on budget.
I found the trade work on the project to be outstanding and C.R. Beaver, Inc.’s management of the project to be excellent.
I would recommend C.R. Beaver, Inc. to any developer looking for a general contractor with both an experienced trade crew and outstanding project administration.

“I am writing with regard to building contractor, Bob Beaver. Mr. Beaver came in during mid-construction of our new church sanctuary, which was at the time chaotic at the least.
Bob was extremely professional from day one and took, what I would describe as an utter perplexity, to a work of art.
Literally putting himself and his company at risk for someone he hardly knew, he made the seemingly impossible come to pass in an orderly fashion.
Bob is a man of his word with character and integrity and an excellent, as well as intelligent, developer.
Mr. Beaver has earned my highest regards and my most paramount recommendation.”

“How the Carriage House came to be our home”
It has always been our dream to live on the water. After many hours spent researching and searching the internet around the particular area which seemed to call our names, we stumbled upon an interesting prospect. The description of this home was lovely. Built in 1904, it was sure to have the character we were looking for in a home. We had both decided it had to have the “wow” factor in order for us to consider the move. Although we were sure this would be challenge, it possessed most of the esthetics and geographic attraction we desired (and more). Most importantly, this home could accommodate our needs as we head into our “golden years”.
As pictures can be deceiving and as curiosity got the best of us, we decided to place a phone call to the listing agent at 9:00 PM from the snowy, cold and blustery place where we lived. We were prepared to get a voice mail when a pleasant voice answered the phone. It was the friendly listing agent who (much like a boy scout) was ready to serve. Getting straight to the point and as not to occupy too much of his time at this late hour, we expressed our concern as to “why this home was STILL on the market”? In the nicest and most southern gentlemanly way possible, he explained the home needed extensive “tendering loving care”. In real-estate speak, that equates to “it was close to being in the state of disrepair and in need of life support.
While we were talking to him, we were looking at the pictures posted online. One really couldn’t overlook the fact that the home had very nice bones. From a distance she/it was beautiful. It was one of a kind. It was unique to the area and had a bit of history behind it. On first glance it was a “thumbs up”. Still, until this day, I was shocked when viewing the interior photos and chuckling at the blunders by the previous decorator. Our immediate thoughts were “there is no possible way that anybody could capture every color on the monochromatic color wheel and squeeze it into approximately 3100 square feet”. We found that could be done! But…that was just makeup and could be fixed.
The offering price was inclusive of the home and ALL of its furnishing, a boat slip (with a boat) within a minute’s walk, a swimming pool and tennis courts. What could possibly be wrong with that? We made the decision to pack up the car and make the trip from Pennsylvania to see it in person.
We happened to know of a great contractor that came to us highly recommended. C.R. Beaver Inc. (Bob Beaver) met us at the listing address. Bob took out his fine tooth comb and started looking at this potential project. He looked into spaces under and over and in between. He crawled over the house like an ant in an ant farm. This was going to be a job for Superman. We knew we had the right man on the job. C.R. Beaver was up to the task.
As in many old homes (108 years to be exact) this home offered many challenges. After conferring with his specialist, he informed us that he was willing to take on the task. Bob felt he had the ability to breathe life back into this home. Bob was willing to take on this project to completion with all of the major obstacles from termite infestation to reworking plumbing of 100 years – plus. C.R. Beaver, Inc. had the insight and ability to transfer this pile of bricks into a home. In addition to the home’s age, this was at one point a home for horses and carriages and eventually the gas powered automobiles where the attention to detail was lacking. It was not going to be easy. He would have to correct over a hundred years of building mistakes and miscalculations.
Our project, in particular, illustrated Bob’s attention to detail and concern for quality service. Bob had creative solutions to challenges that arose along the way. It is because of C.R. Beaver’s creativity that allowed us to see our dreams become a reality.
We now take pleasure to confidently recommend C.R. Beaver to anybody for commercial or residential needs. Bob is an expert in his field. Bob’s s company offers exquisite services and rates. We are very pleased with their work. It is because of C.R. Beaver, “The Carriage House” had a second chance at life.
C.R. Beaver is a respectable company that stands behind their work. Bob Beaver runs his company with integrity combined with a great deal of skill. The skill that was necessary to make this project come to fruition. Aside from being a likable bunch, they have been dependable, straight forward and honest. They have always been forthright with costs and have taken an enthusiastic and realistic approach to exceed our expectations.
C.R. Beaver Inc. was able to take a stone and polish it to a flawless diamond we are now proud to call our home.
