The North Carolina Zoo is a destination for all ages in 2019! From adorable baby rhinos to a stunning Zoofari experience, among the free roaming animals of the 40-acre Watani grasslands, the Zoo is a place of conservation, education, and fun in the Heart of North Carolina. Guests will encounter 1,600 animals along a five-mile walking trail, enchanting outdoor art, and learn about the Zoo’s efforts to serve as a leader in international animal conservation. Located near the historic Uwharrie Mountains, the North Carolina Zoo features natural habitats and is the world’s largest zoo. Guests can also enjoy hiking, the paddleboats, taking a spin on a gorgeous endangered species carousel, the Air Hike Ropes Course or the hike course for smaller tikes (new in 2019), or checking out the views from the Acacia Station Giraffe Deck. Children can learn about the Zoo’s ambassador animals, splash in a creek or make mud pies at the Kidzone play area. Discover exotic and native butterflies at the new walk-through butterfly habitat. Whether elephants or ostriches, polar bears or puffins animals of all kinds call the North Carolina Zoo home!
